Supporting the Refugee Children
The Salvation Army Refugee Integration School Effort (RISE)
At The Salvation Army, we believe every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and belong—no matter where they were born. Our Refugee Preschool Programme in Taman OUG provides Myanmese refugee children aged 4–6 with a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment, helping them take their first steps toward a brighter future.
Running full-day from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, the programme combines early childhood education with psychosocial support, language learning, and cultural integration. Here, children from diverse Myanmese backgrounds—Matupi Chin, Rohingya, Kayin, Mon, and more—learn side by side under a shared Burmese-language curriculum that unites rather than divides.
By creating a peaceful, structured space, we not only prepare children for primary school but also enable parents—especially mothers—to work or attend training during the day, easing financial pressures and strengthening family stability.

How We Help
We provide holistic, inclusive support to meet the learning and well-being needs of every child:
Inclusive Early Learning
A structured preschool curriculum in Burmese and English, fostering literacy, numeracy, and school readiness.
Psychosocial & Emotional Support
Activities that nurture resilience, cooperation, and confidence.
English & Digital Skills
Use of digital tools such as the Sunshine Online programme to build language and 21st-century skills.
Parent & Caregiver Engagement
Workshops and sessions to strengthen home learning and positive parenting.
Peacebuilding & Cultural Integration
Games, stories, and celebrations that unite children across ethnic lines and encourage friendship with non-refugee peers.
Why It Matters
In Malaysia, more than 9,000 preschool-aged refugee children have no access to formal education. Without early learning, they face delays in development, fewer opportunities in later schooling, and a higher risk of continued marginalisation.
Our preschool offers more than ABCs—it’s a place where children learn to read, count, make friends, and imagine a future beyond the limits imposed by their circumstances. With your support, we can break cycles of exclusion and give these young learners the foundation they deserve.
